GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Lucas Krull grew up idolizing Tim Tebow, a quarter-left-hander tall enough to play in the tight match.
So imagine how wide-eyed Krull was when Tebow spoke in the locker room before the Florida game against LSU. Krull was even more struck by the stars when Tebow congratulated him afterwards.
Former Arkansas pitcher and now a rarely used left-handed opponent, the 6-foot 6-foot Krull managed a perfect pass to Feleipe Franks on a tricks game that allowed Florida's No. 22 touchdown to reach the top of the table. take 27-19 against the fifth ranked LSU on Saturday.
"I said to myself, Hey, can we have a picture?" Said Krull. "He said," Yes, of course. Excellent launch. Excellent victory of the team. "So it was great to be able to talk to him."
The Gators (5-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) scored all their points at the end of the first quarter, when Tebow became the sixth player inducted into the school's ring of honor .
"I did not want him to drop it that way," said Florida coach Dan Mullen, Tebow's offensive coordinator for two national championships. "I know it's a night that he'll never forget and that the whole family will never forget." I know that winning this match was kind of like a little cherry on the cake to make sure everything was smiling. "
Tebow watching most of the game from the sideline, Florida looked a bit like a champion candidate.
Lamical Perine scored two goals, Florida's defense was as good as she's been all season and the difference was another perfect round called by Mullen.
A week after defeating the Mississippi State with a double pass, Franks passed the ball to Krull and slipped to the right side almost unnoticed. Krull approached and offered 15 points to Franks to establish the second touchdown of Perine.
"Their last training was devastating," said LSU coach Ed Orgeron. "We just could not play."
The training was huge for Florida, who had lost six of the last eight in the series and two in a row in Gainesville. She immediately followed LSU's decisive score, which included two long Nick Brossette races.
"Lucky run," said Gators back defender Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. "We broke out."
Brossette went 79 yards, including a 2-yard dive that allowed the Tigers (5-1, 2-1) to go up 19-14 with 8:48.
Florida responded, but did not put LSU apart until intercepting Brad Stewart, then another in fourth place on the next possession.
"It's another step for us," Gardner-Johnson said.
L & # 39; boarding
LSU: The Tigers played pretty well on defense to win their third consecutive game at Gainesville, but they did not get much closer to their opponent after a first-base touchdown. LSU ran 75 meters on 10 games, presumably scripted, to open the game, but they never looked like each other. Burrow was sacked five times.
Florida: Linebacker Vosean Joseph has had the best game of his career, which the Gators will try to develop in the future. The junior finished with 14 tackles, including two sacks. His purse on the second possession of LSU was a game that quickly changed the momentum.
TEBOW TIME
Tebow's introductory speech went as planned.
He thanked Jesus, his parents, his former teammates, and then the Gator nation.
"I was born Gator, I played as a Gator, I'm going to die as a Gator," Tebow said passionately at the end of the first quarter, pulling an enthusiastic ovation.
Tebow was back on the field at half-time, recognized as part of the 2008 National Championship team. When the players gathered for a group photo, they begged Tebow to stand at the ### 39; foreground. He politely refused.
"I saw it before the game," Mullen said. "Tim was ready to leave now, ready to buckle up and leave now, he had that look in his eyes and he was ready to play."
KEY STAT
Florida finished with 215 yards on the floor. Perine was 85, Jordan Scarlett added 65 and Franks was 42.
ROCKER STEP
Franks, who threw a pass for a touchdown earlier this season, added one on a decisive step Saturday. Both were pieces designed by Mullen and Tebow executed to perfection in his day. Franks took a shot in the head, went forward and rocked to the scrum line as a quarterback, then got up and started a 3 yard pass for TD on morale, at second quarter.
"It was not really an ode to Tebow," Mullen said. "It was an ode to score touchdowns."
IMPLICATIONS OF SURVEY
LSU will surely fall, probably not in the top 10, as previous wins against Miami and Auburn are not as good now. Florida will be in the top 20.
FOLLOWING
LSU: continues the most difficult part of its program against Georgia, No. 2, next Saturday.
Florida: plays next Saturday at Vanderbilt, who has lost 26 of the last 27 in the series.
