Troopers: A suspect from the hospital shooting in custody
ELLENVILLE – The man suspected of firing a gun Friday in a hospital in Ulster County and then in police was arrested in New York, state police said late Monday.
Police said Joshua Stuart, 42, was arrested by US Marshals in Brooklyn Monday without incident. It arrived just hours after the police said that he had stolen a Brooklyn store employee under the threat of a gun.
The soldiers identified Stuart as a suspect on Friday, hours after an early morning incident inside an emergency department had announced the end of the hunt for humans .
Nobody was injured when gunshots were fired around 1 pm Friday at the Ellenville Regional Hospital, in the Catskill Mountains, about 75 km southwest of the town. Albany, announced the national police.
Soldiers said the gunman fled into a van that was later found by police from the Napanoch County Environmental Protection Department.
When CED officers approached a man near the vehicle, he fired four to five semi-automatic pistol shots at the police and escaped into the woods, state police said Friday.
On Saturday, soldiers asked residents to check the tracks of vehicles and surveillance cameras, but also to avoid tracks for their safety.
Associated Press contributed to this report.
