TROY, MO. • A woman stole pain medication that she was supposed to give to her terminally ill daughter.
Carol Virginia Ballweg, 46, was charged in Lincoln County on Wednesday with four counts of stealing a controlled substance and two counts of abuse against an elderly, disabled or vulnerable person, according to the report. Troy police.
Police were called Monday by medical staff at Troy Family Practice, who feared that a 20-year-old woman in palliative care would receive her painkillers prescribed by her main caregiver, her mother.
The patient, identified by the police as C.M., is terminally ill and has been prescribed fentanyl and oxycodone to treat the pain, the police said. Medical staff also gave pictures of the police showing C.M. had developed bed sores.
The doctors worried that C.M. She did not receive her medication after Ballweg repeatedly asked her for prescription renewals in advance, the police said.

Medical staff told police on Monday that they had reported their concerns to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the police said. The agents confirmed the investigation with the officials.
The police searched Ballweg 's house on Tuesday, during which she admitted to having opioid addiction and using her daughter' s oxycodone – based drugs, the police said.

Ballweg was detained Wednesday at Lincoln County Jail with a bail bond set at $ 100,000, provided she could not contact her daughter if she is released.
