The dramatic live version of Troye Sivan's "Animal" would have probably delighted the Last show public – if only there had been one.

The pop singer has introduced a more band-oriented version of his dark Flowering on Wednesday, relying on harmonized electric guitars, atmospheric synths, piano flourishes and percussion. When the song reached its peak, the camera zoomed in to reveal an empty Ed Sullivan theater.

Sivan also played his song "Plum", adding a rock touch to the cut with a heavy drums and an electric guitar solo. "Plum" is a cut album from the second Sivan LP, Flowering. "Animal" is the fifth single, after "My My My!", "The Good Side", "Bloom" and "Dance to This" with Ariana Grande.

The singer also sits for an interview with Last show animate Stephen Colbert, promoting his next film Boy cleared. The drama directed by Joel Edgerton, to be presented at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, follows a gay teenager whose parents sent him to "conversion therapy". "I really hope the film will speak mostly to … parents," Sivan told me. "How can your reaction to your child really shape their lives?"

Sivan will promote Flowering with a Autumn tour in North America which begins September 21 in Irving, Texas and ends November 8 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
