NASCAR playoff driver Martin Truex Jr. will start from the back of the field for Sunday's First Data 500 (2:30 pm ET on NBCSN / NBC Sports, MNR, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) Martinsville Speedway after the race to rank 78 rank Toyota failed the inspection before the race Sunday morning.

Truex was set to finish sixth on Sunday, as the reigning NASCAR Monster Energy Series champion tries to break a drought from 0 to 77 on short runs in NASCAR's best series. The qualifying speed of Truex from Saturday was not allowed and the team will lose its place in the stand selection order.

Truex enters the race in third place in the standings and +23 above the demarcation line before the start of the round of 16. The other seven playoff cars passed the inspection before the race the first time.

Two other cars outside the playoffs failed at Sunday's mechanical measurement portion: the No. 8 Chevrolet Hendrick Motorsports of nine-time Martinsville winner Jimmie Johnson and the No. 38 David Ragan Ford of Front Row Motorsports. Ragan was to start 14th on the grid, Johnson qualifying at the 23rd start.

JJ Yeley and BK Racing Toyota's No. 23 team will also leave behind after inspection of car # 23. Yeley was scheduled to start 34th.

Two other cars are in the back: the Bubba Wallace's No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet and Paul Menard's No. 21 Ford Wood Brothers Racing. Wallace was wrecked in qualifying and had to go to a rescue car, while Menard's engine changed. Wallace's emergency car was also not tested in the first round.

Martinsville is an impound race and the cars must make the first attempt to maintain their starting position as this inspection serves as both an inspection after qualifying and before the race. The first failure results in a loss of starting position and qualifying time is denied. Additional failures result in the loss of a car leader and points.
