Donald Trump continues to harass Harley-Davidson about the motorcycle company's plans to relocate part of the production abroad to dodge European tariffs triggered by the president's trade war. What Trump does not mention is that the president and his family own businesses overseas and that most Trump products are produced in foreign factories
. He defended the practice then, arguing: "We are allowed to do it" – like Harley-Davidson. "So I'm going to enjoy it," he added. In a Trump University study unit now gone, Trump wrote that outsourcing jobs is sometimes a "necessary step" (Trump agreed to pay $ 25 million to settle fraudulent claims against his "university".)
The president once again criticized the Wisconsin motorcycle company on a Fox News program on Sunday, saying the company would suffer a "big bang" from angry consumers that 39, an American company moves part of its production abroad.
"Everyone who has ever bought a Harley-Davidson has voted for Trump … and they are very upset about it," said Trump. He added that the company "should not play cute". He accused Harley-Davidson on Twitter earlier in the week: "They surrendered, they resigned! The aura will be gone."
An advertisement by Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign attacked Trump for having outsourced manufacturing in 12 different countries. A Washington Post investigation confirmed it. Import records revealed that Trump shirts, suits, sports coats, eyeglasses, household items – such as furniture, fixtures and mirrors – and hotel amenities, including including shampoo, towels and laundry bags. The factories used are located in China, Germany, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam and South Korea, among others.
When Trump staged his "Made in America" week at the White House last year, he was accused of hypocrisy. "Instead of giving us lectures, Trump should try to give the example," said a statement from the Democratic National Committee
