WASHINGTON (AP) – As strains of "O Christmas Tree" floated in the fresh air, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump accepted Monday the official White House Christmas tree that will be exhibited in the Blue Room and will mark the beginning of the celebrations at the Executive Mansion.
The Fraser Fir, from a height of 19 meters (6 meters), was cut on a farm owned by Larry Smith of Newland, North Carolina, and delivered to the entrance of the White House on a green wagon attached to a pair of horses. A sign on the trolley says "2018 White House Christmas Tree."
While holding hands, the Trumps spent about a minute wandering around the cart and inspecting the tree, the chair nodding apparently nodding at one point and patting him. back of one of the horses at another time.
Trump did not make any public comment. He and the first lady greeted Smith before they returned to the White House.
The tree will go up to the blue room, where it becomes the centerpiece of Christmas at the White House every year. A massive chandelier suspended in the oval-shaped room is removed to accommodate the tree; it is cut slightly and anchored to the ceiling for more stability.
The arrival of the tree announces a month of celebration at the White House and its surroundings.
Tuesday, Trump plans to participate in another seasonal rite: the pardon of Turkey's national Thanksgiving. A pair of birds named Peas and Carrots are the candidates for this year's Presidential Mercy Act. Trump should also help light up the national Christmas tree on the Ellipse later this month.
After the graces, the first family will travel to Florida to preserve their Thanksgiving tradition at the Trump Estate in Palm Beach.
While the family is away, an army of volunteer decorators, florists and florists from across the country will work throughout the holiday weekend to transform the 132-room mansion to Christmas.
The White House kitchens will pack up food and desserts that will be swallowed up at dozens of receptions and receptions the Trumps will hold in December before heading back to Florida to celebrate Christmas and celebrate the New Year.
Ms. Trump should unveil the holiday decor after the Thanksgiving family returns to Florida.
Christmas planning at the White House is a process that lasts a month.
In July, Ms. Trump tweeted a photo of her and a designer in the White House map room while they were reviewing holiday concepts.
"Planning is underway for #Christmas at this year's @WhiteHouse!" she wrote. "There is still a lot of work to be done, but I hope everyone will enjoy our last holiday vision for the People's House."
Last year, it had the theme of "Traditions in the Honor", a nod to 200 years of holiday celebrations at the Executive Mansion.
The Smith Farm, Mountain Top Fraser Fir, provided the tree to the White House after winning the National Christmas Tree Association's annual contest.
The White House Land Superintendent and the Chief Bailiff picked the fir tree during a trip in September to Smith's Farm, making inspection and approval of it. Tree by Trumps a formality.
The appearance of the president was unusual. The annual delivery of trees has traditionally been an event for White House staff or the first lady. The White House Historical Association said Monday it had found no evidence of a president joining the first lady to accept the tree.
