President Trump, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, showed a slight rise in the percentage of Americans who consider the Republican Party favorably – but overstated the GOP's advantage over Democrats on this point.
The president cited a new Gallup poll that found that 45% of Americans now have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party. That's the highest figure of Gallup polls in seven years, as Trump noted correctly in his tweet.
But Trump also said the GOP figure is "3 points more than the Democrats!"
The poll found that 44% of Americans have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party – a margin of one percentage point.
In any case, the results are good news for Republicans.
Gallup reports that only another time in the last decade, the Republican Party had a significantly higher score than the Democratic Party.
It was in November 2014, after the mid-term legislative elections in which Republicans took control of the Senate and expanded their majority in the House.
At that time, Republicans had the advantage in favorability, from 42% to 36%.
