President Trump has ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to relax regulations and allow the sale of gasoline to ethanol throughout the year, for the purpose of help farmers in the Midwestern states.
The E15 fuel, consisting of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline, is already available for sale nine months a year, but it is hoped that this sale all year will help farmers who grow corn in states like Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Some of these same farmers are faced with the weight of the prices suppressed as a result of tariff disputes of the president. Mr. Trump should brag about change at a rally in Iowa Tuesday evening.
"We are going to Iowa where we have a big statement to make, as you know about ethanol and for our farmers," Trump told the press before leaving the White House .
Republican Senator John Thune of South Dakota, whose agriculture is the state's main industry, said the president's ruling "was giving a boost" to farmers across the country – in the good sense of the word. He and other GOP Senators who met with the White House President Tuesday in camera expressed their gratitude to the President for honoring his commitment to farmers.
Environmentalists have long been concerned that the fuel contains a higher percentage of ethanol, fearing an increase in CO2 emissions, a greenhouse gas supposed to contribute to climate change.
President Joni Ernst told reporters after the meeting that the president has not announced any deadline for drafting the revised regulations by the EPA. Ernst and other senators took care not to criticize the president's tariffs. She said many of her constituents realize that tariffs can cause short-term problems, but they want long-term gains.
Senator Chuck Grassley said in a statement that he thought the change would also lessen the country 's dependence on foreign oil.
"Opening the door for year-round sale of higher ethanol blends is a win for farmers, rural America and the nation as a whole," Grassley said in a statement. . "Authorizing an open market with more fuel options for consumers encourages competition, lowers fuel costs for the consumer and is good for the environment .He also maintains and creates jobs in the regions from the country that needs it most and decreases America's dependence on foreign oil.I would like to thank President Trump for his leadership and for keeping his promise to farmers and farm workers from around the world.
