President Donald Trump lambasted comments on the Russian inquiry by Democratic Senator Mark Warner of Virginia and suggested that they could have been made "in a state close to drunkenness".

"Why does Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), perhaps in a state close to drunkenness, claim to have information that he and Bob Mueller, the leader of the 13 Angry Democrats on a witch hunt, knows, "Trump tweeted. "Is not it highly illegal, is it the subject of an investigation?"

Trump was referring to Warner's comments at a retreat of the Democratic Senate's campaign committee at Martha's Vineyard on Friday night.

Publicity

Warner, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, jokingly said that he could disclose information about the ongoing Russian investigation which only he and special advocate Robert Mueller were aware of. .

"If you give me a glass of wine more, I'll tell you stuff only Bob Mueller and I know," Warner said, according to Politico.

"If you think you've ever seen wild stuff, tie your seatbelt," added Warner. "It's going to be a wild couple of months."

Warner later admitted that his comments were "a bad joke," according to the Washington Examiner: "You know how seriously I am doing this investigation," Warner said. "We will follow the facts."
