Tua, Murray stays on fire

Quaterbacks almost always get all the love, but this week, it's time to give the players a lot of love for our players of the week.

Did Kyler Murray beat Tua Tagovailoa as a Heisman favorite?

The future Oakland A player had another fantastic match for Oklahoma during his win over Kansas on Saturday night. Murray's squad controls his Big 12 fate with a threatening game against West Virginia on Black Friday and may have just released Heisman from Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa has only played in the fourth quarter once this year because of the dominant defense that complements the Alabama offensive. He does not have the same numbers as Murray in video games. Murray also does not have the advantage of having an elite defense capable of bailing out if the offense has to bail out or make a turnaround. Murray must play perfectly with the defense of Sooners, a civic who leaves him little room for error.

Murray scored two assists and three touchdowns, including a 75-yard touchdown in the Kansas win. Tagovailoa scored a fine line of statistics on 18 of 22 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns and a touchdown in the win over the Citadel. He will not get bonus points against the Citadel, but Murray may not have much to gain from the victory over Kansas.

So in two weeks, Murray and Tagovailoa could be neck and neck and what they will do in the next two games will determine who will win the Heisman.

Week 12 was much more than Kyler against Tua, so let's take a look at FanSided's college football players of the week.

Nick Fitzgerald, QB, State of Mississippi

• 9/14, 127 yards, 4 TDs; 14 races, 85 yards, 1 TD

He did not have a ton of yards, but if you have five touchdowns in total, you'll be one of the players of the week. Nick Fitzgerald shares as the Mississippi State. In the four defeats of State, he did not score any touchdowns. In the seven wins of State, he has 14 touchdowns, including consecutive wins with four passing scores.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

• 18/22, 340 yards, 3 TD; 4 races, 37 yards, 1 TD

Alabama and The Citadel were tied at 10 at halftime, the first half closest to the tide this year. Tua Tagovailoa and her company led the way in the third quarter en route to a 50-17 win. Tagovailoa made his 31st touchdown of the season to beat Alabama's one-season record as he gets even closer to becoming the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman.

J.K. Dobbins, RB, State of Ohio

• 37 races, 203 yards, 1 TD

With injured Mike Weber Jr., Ohio State relies heavily on Dobbins, who went on to win 37 times, a career-high, in the 52-51 win over Maryland in overtime. He was a real workaholic in the afternoon, the Buckeyes desperately needed him. As impressive as Dwayne Haskins was, Dobbins was just as important to the win and he should dip in a cold bath for the next 48 hours to heal his body and get ready for Michigan.

Pooka Williams Jr, RB, Kansas

• 15 races, 252 yards, 3 TDs

The rookie in Louisiana scored 252 yards in the loss to Oklahoma. In fact, he ran for more yards than he totaled in his previous four combined games. Williams is one of the highlights of this Kansas team that should be coached by Miles the next year. Miles has always had some dominant demos during his stay at LSU and he seems to have a particular talent in Williams.

Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA

• 40 races, 289 yards, 2 TDs

UCLA won a big win over their USC rival in Chip Kelly's first match as part of the rivalry, but Joshua Kelley stole the show. The UC Davis transfer has had a career high 40 times out of 289 times in two touchdowns. His 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter gave the Bruins a 28-27 lead they never gave up.

Anthony McFarland, RB, Maryland

• 21 races, 298 yards, 1 TD

Spend a day, young Terp! The first-year running right half ran more than 200 meters in the first half against Ohio State to announce his presence to the nation. He finished with two yards under 300 and the Terps may have regrets for not putting the ball in his hands during the decisive two-point attempt that resulted in an incomplete pass to lose the match. It was his second consecutive game of 200 yards.

Taylor Cornelius, QB, State of Oklahoma

• 30/46, 338 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT; 13 races, 106 yards, 1 TD

Oklahoma State followed 31-14 at half-time, but Taylor Cornelius beat Will Grier as the Pokes completed their return to West Virginia to end the hopes of the Mountaineers playoffs. Cornelius scored a touchdown and scored two goals in the fourth quarter, including the winning goal with 42 seconds to go.

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin

• 33 carries, 321 yards, 3 TDs

Jonathan Taylor was my winner of the pre-season Heisman. He is not going to win, but he did get a Heisman-style performance in the Wisconsin 3OT victory over the Purdue. The Badgers tied his career record with 33 goals and set a new personal best with 321 yards. He had three touchdowns, including the 17-yard scam in triple overtime to win the game.

Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

• 21/32, 272 yards, 2 TDs; 8 races, 99 yards, 3 TDs

If Tua is Heisman's favorite, Kyler is the most valuable. Remove him from this team and Oklahoma has another loss or three and they are certainly not in the first place in the Big 12 with a knock in the playoffs. It's basically what Michael Vick was in Madden but in real life. There is no defense in the Big 12, but there is really no defense for Murray's double threat ability. With West Virginia next, you can expect Murray to put on a show to continue strengthening his resume for Heisman on Black Friday night.

Dwayne Haskins, QB, State of Ohio

• 28/38, 405 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT; 13 races, 59 yards, 3 TDs

It was not always good for Ohio State against Maryland, but Dwayne Haskins had one of the best games of his season in overtime. The Buckeyes needed all six touchdowns to beat the 14-point deficit in the second half to keep their hopes alive. Haskins may also have been invited to the Heisman.
