Are you ready for a bold statement? Tua Tagovailoa played her best half of football in the second half against Auburn on Saturday.
Alabama quarterback and favorite Heisman had a total of 11 out of 12 passes, scoring a total of 208 yards and four touchdowns as the Crimson Tide pulled out of rival Auburn for a 52-21 victory. at Iron Bowl.
Tagovailoa has thrown more passes in the fourth quarter (2) than in the last 11 games (1). But you do not release the gas against a rival as early as against another team. And not when Tagovailoa plays as he was.
His four touchdown passes were all played 15 minutes from the end of the match. So maybe we should change that statement in half to quarter.
Tagovailoa hit Jerry Jeudy for a magnificent 46-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. He then found Josh Jacobs on a 33-yard catch and ran on to the drive afterwards. The third touchdown pass was for Devonta Smith for 40 yards and the last, which came in 33 seconds after the start of the fourth quarter, was a 22-yard touchdown for Henry Ruggs III. The Tagovailoa pitch was excellent and Ruggs' capture was just as exceptional.
Tagovailoa finished the game with 25 assists in 32 passes for a total of 324 yards and five touchdowns. He also had an urgent touchdown. He left the game after the pass for Ruggs and was replaced by Jalen Hurts, who immediately scored a 53-yard touchdown to Jaylen Waddle in his first game match.
Yes, it was that kind of day for Auburn and Alabama.
The Tigers were under three at half-time and had chances to stay in the third quarter match. But a false goal on the odd pitch effectively ended Auburn's chances to victory. The Tigers tried it inside the 25 of Alabama while the 31-14 were on the run. That's how it happened.
Alabama pushed Auburn and the Tigers scored one in ten to qualify. But Alabama scored exactly 69 seconds after recovering the ball to extend his lead to 17 and prevent Auburn from sniffing again.
Alabama does something for the first time in 120 years
Want to know how Alabama was good in 2018? Just look at this CBS Sports statistic.
The margin of victory closest to the tide this season was 22 points. It was at week 4 when Alabama beat Texas A & M 45-23.
Tagovailoa is the Heisman leader
Kyler Murray of Oklahoma challenges Tagovailoa for Heisman's leadership status. Murray totaled nearly 500 total offensive yards and four touchdowns in the Sooners victory over West Virginia on Friday night. But a six-touch game is quite Tagovailoa's answer.
Both quarters have completion percentages and similar yards per attempt, while Murray is the biggest threat as a runner. But Tagovailoa has the advantage because Alabama is undefeated and no Tide quarterback has won the Heisman. It would also be foolish to believe that Tagovailoa's winning national title in January does not reach this status.
Alabama goes to Atlanta to play Georgia
The game we have known for a while is finally in a week. No. 1 Crimson Tide will play against the likely No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC title on Dec. 1. The stakes are fairly simple for both teams. A win is a place in the four-team playoffs. A Georgia win, especially if it is tight, could mean that Alabama remains in the playoffs and keeps Oklahoma or the state of Ohio in the group.
