TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Alabama quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, was forced to leave the field in the third quarter in Saturday's game against Missouri.
Tagovailoa wore a protective brace on her knee against Missouri, scoring 265 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions before appearing to aggravate her injury by slipping on a run.
The coaches tended to follow Tagovailoa in the field and he was able to jog on the sidelines on his own. He immediately went to a side tent to receive medical attention. He missed the next offensive series from Alabama and was replaced by Jalen Hurts.
Tagovailoa spent about 10 minutes in the tent, her parents coming down from the stands to visit her.
"Tua is fine, he has had the same injury as before," coach Nick Saban told ESPN after the match. "We just did not get it back in the game."
Tagovailoa, a Heisman Trophy favorite, 's injured his knee a week earlier in a win over Arkansas.
Saban called the injury a sprain Thursday and noted that Tagovailoa had missed no representative in training.
Hurts, who started 28 consecutive games with a record of 26-2 before becoming a substitute of the season, is notable for Tagovailoa's injury. The junior and former SEC Offensive Player of the Year participated in every game of the season, completing 30 of 42 passes for 453 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.
Tagovailoa started every game this season. The sophomore from Hawaii started the weekend with a total of 1,495 yards, 18 touchdowns and no interceptions.
