ANKARA, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) – Turkey and Germany will step up their efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and prevent escalation of conflicts in the Syrian region of Idlib, Ankara stressed on Wednesday. Foreign Ministers of both countries.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he discussed with his German counterpart Heiko Maas steps to be taken to improve and restore relations, as well as latest developments in the Syrian region of Idlib.

Cavusoglu said the bombing against Idlib was wrong and was seriously risking, adding that Ankara was going to prevent such attacks from happening again at Tehran's Turkey-Russia-Iran summit on Friday.

"We are making intense efforts with Germany to standardize and strengthen bilateral relations," added the minister.

Mass, for its part, responded to the importance of German-Turkish relations and expressed a positive attitude towards Turkey's efforts on Syrian issues.

"Turkey is right in its concerns about Idlib, we will work with Turkey to prevent escalation in the Syrian region of Idlib," Mass said.

Maas began his two-day trip to Turkey on Wednesday as the two countries sought to improve relations after a failed coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016.

Before the press conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a mass at the presidential palace in Ankara. Erdogan planned to make a state visit to Berlin on 28 and 29 September.
