On September 28, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier to discuss ways to improve political and economic relations between the two countries.
Erdoğan was received with military honors by Steinmeier at the Presidential Palace Schloss Bellevue.
President and First Lady Emine Erdoğan arrived in Berlin on Thursday for a three-day visit.
Erdoğan will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel on 28 September.
Prior to his visit, Erdoğan called for the opening of a new page on Turkish-German relations in an article in the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
"The dramatic developments in the world make it essential for Germany and Turkey to open a new page in bilateral relations, to put aside their differences and to focus on their common interests," he said. -He underlines.
Relations between Ankara and Berlin have suffered several setbacks in recent years, but both sides have taken steps in recent months to improve relations.
Enhanced security in Berlin
German authorities have raised security measures at the highest level 1, in downtown Berlin, in anticipation of Erdoğan's visit.
The Berlin police announced that approximately 4,200 police officers would be deployed to Berlin to provide security during the visit.
The main streets of the government district have been closed as part of the security measures.
After his official meetings in Berlin, Erdoğan will travel on 29 September to the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia, which has a large Turkish immigrant population.
In Cologne, Erdoğan will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Central Mosque in Cologne, run by the Islamic-Turkish Union for Religious Affairs.
