Tusk and May talk about Brexit in the hope of an elusive breakthrough

British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Council President Donald Tusk spoke by telephone amid signs of movement in the Brexit stalemate talks.

Tusk tweeted on Wednesday that the two men had "cast their feet on the progress of Nebrexit negotiations and discuss the way forward."

Tusk said he was ready to convene a special EU summit if Britain wanted an unblocking of the talks.

May's cabinet was about to agree on a proposal on the key issue of maintaining an open border between Ireland and Northern Ireland after Brexit.

However, some cabinet ministers in favor of Brexit want the Attorney General to establish a legal opinion before agreeing on anything. They fear that Britain will be permanently tied to an EU customs union, which would limit its ability to enter into new trade agreements around the world.
