Twitter (TWTR) said Thursday that it has permanently banned conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from using the social media platform.
The company has made the announcement in a series of tweets.
The action comes a day after CEO Jack Dorsey testified at a congressional hearing to find out if social media sites are seeking to suppress conservative opinions.
Today, we have definitely suspended @realalexjones and @infowars from Twitter and Periscope. We took this action based on new reports from Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to past account violations.

Jones was banned "based on new reports from Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to past account violations," said Twitter Safety.
Twitter also said, "We will continue to evaluate the reports we receive regarding other accounts potentially associated with @realalexjones or @Infowars and will take action if content that violates our rules is reported or if other accounts are used in an attempt to circumvent their ban.
Twitter's shares fell 5.9% to $ 30.80.
