The magazine shocked its 6 million subscribers on Twitter Thursday with what appeared to be exclusive information about the relationship between the reality TV star and the rapper, sending Twitterverse in the overdrive.

But people looking for the juicy details of the purported split (which is wrong, BTW) were redirected to a voter registration page for whenweallvote.org when they clicked on the link.

Similarly, Tim Cigelske tweeted an equally attractive link offering details behind the broken engagement of Grande and Davidson: "Wow, I can not believe that's why Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have split up."

Cigelske's supporters have even begun to share his message with seductive comments. "U must read this omg," someone added.

The result was the same. The people who clicked on the link were directed to vote.org, where it says: "Register to vote, it will take 2 minutes."

The system of clickable baits has apparently spread on Twitter, several imitations arise online. Some users responded positively.

@LydiaBurrell congratulated Elle for the waterfall, adding "you've gotten me with this one!"

"As a good sportsman, I signed up and will do it for the first time in November," continued Twitter's user.

In response to Cigelske's tweet, @Btweentwolions shared a photo of his duly completed registration request: "A good burn deserves to be recognized as well played".

Another social media user admitted to signing up to vote in the most 2018 way of all time: "I have to admit that I signed up to vote through a tweet that I thought was about Ariana and Pete. "

Others were not too happy with Twitter programs.

@BubbaAtkinson said the fake news was "not smart". "It takes advantage of the situation, there are smarter ways to do it without lying in a climate where trust in the media is extremely low," he said.
