Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) must be desperate when re-elected to the Senate.
Now, he even falsely claims that his Democratic opponent, the US representative, Beto O'Rourke, wants to ban Texans from barbecuing.
The senator made the remarks at a rally in Columbus on Saturday after PETA arrived hoping to garner bipartisan support for Texas tofu, with soy being an important cash crop for state farmers.
However, Cruz ruled that PETA's presence was contradictory and falsely claimed that O'Rourke's election would lead to bans on barbecues across the country.
"When I got here, someone even said that even PETA was protesting and distributing grilled tofu, so I must say that they summed up the elections: if Texas elects a Democrat, it will ban the barbecue in the state of Texas. "Said Cruz, according to the American Austin-Statesman.
He dubbed the unproven claim Sunday on Twitter.
Although the tweet's emoticons were supposed to mean the senator was joking when he said O'Rourke would ban the barbecue, Cruz's spokesperson, Catherine Frazier, admitted to having a lot of press questions from reporters.
Jokingly or not, many Twitter users definitely had an ox with Cruz's attempt to launch a tickler.
This is the last statement of false food that Cruz made against O'Rourke. Earlier this month, Cruz told a crowd at a campaign rally that Democrats were raising "millions of dollars" to transform Texas into California with its "tofu, silicone and dyed hair".
Some people thought that a guy who made false statements about his opponent's feelings about the barbecue might be unscrupulous enough to raise funds by sending election envelopes designed as subpoenas – which Cruz did, according to CBS News.
One woman pointed out that every second spent with Cruz on false bans on barbecues is one where he would not offer ideas or solutions on real problems affecting voters.

Cruz currently leads O'Rourke by 9 percentage points, according to CNBC.
