Two bodies were found in a pond in Chaska, Minnesota, during the search for two missing women in the early hours of Saturday (October 13).

The families of Bushra Abdi and Zeynab "Hafsa" Abdalla, both 19, have called the police after failing to return home after their respective night shift this weekend.

The cousins reportedly left their workplace Saturday shortly before 3 am Abdalla, who works in Shakopee, came to pick up Abdi, who works in Chaska.

The pair was last seen in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala gray that they had borrowed from one of the women's families, according to Habsa Abdi, Abdi's sister.

Police said one of the 19-year-olds had dialed 911 from Carver County, telling the operator "help me!", Said Habsa Abdi at Minnesota Star Tribune.

"I do not think that they have run away, because it makes no sense," Habsa Abdi said. "To know these girls at this time … they were going back to work."

His sister added that Bushra Abdi had left his wallet and ID at work and had probably taken money with her to meet his cousin.

The research focused on a swamp at the exit of Highway 41 after following the 911 call. Officials said they found a car immersed in the water, with a body floating nearby and another inside the vehicle, reports KSTP-TV.

Although the bodies have not yet been officially identified, the police think they belong to the missing, aged 19 years. The officers are investigating that their death was the result of an accident because tire tracks were seen leading to the pond where the car was found.

The Minnesota section of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) has launched a public call this weekend to help find the cousins.

Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR-MN, described the couple as "very outgoing … brilliant, young and beautiful girl".

"The community fears the worst," Hussein told MPR News.

In a joint statement, the Shakopee and Chaska Police Departments declared that they "appreciated and supported" CAIR-MN for its public appeal.

"If you have any information, please call the Shakopee Police Department, the Chaska Police Department or CAIR-MN," the forces added in a statement.
