Two cities will separate The 2nd seat: NPR

The split of Amazon's second head office between two sites would have the effect of diluting the company's initial promise of a megadelist, but could also prevent Amazon from being blamed for the degradation of traffic and rising housing prices.

The second seat of Amazon will be split between two sites, according to two people familiar with the discussions. The plan would create up to 50,000 jobs spread across both cities. The average salary has been promised to pay more than $ 100,000 a year over the next 10 to 15 years.

Amazon is still in the final stages of negotiations, but sources in Crystal City, Virginia, are expected to get half of the deal, the citizens told NPR. Crystal City is a suburb of Washington, D.C.

New York City has been reported as a second potential site.

The unexpected decision to divide the second seat between two cities already very present in the Amazon is an anticlimatic end for this high-profile Olympic style research. In total, 238 cities, counties and states submitted bids in the hope of attracting Amazon in the fall of 2017. Amazon had reduced the list to 20 finalists in January.

The choice to split the deal for the so-called QG2 was partly motivated by concerns that a single site might not be able to recruit the 50,000 highly skilled technical employees needed, said one person.

The division of new jobs between two cities could also relieve Amazon of being blamed for a rapid influx of wealthy technicians, which could worsen traffic and increase housing prices. These urban issues have been the subject of controversy in Seattle, the headquarters of Amazon. The company has grown to occupy more than 40 office buildings in the heart of downtown Seattle.

Amazon has built The Spheres, which houses indoor gardens, as an alternative workspace for its downtown Seattle employees. It is part of the campus of 44 Amazonian buildings and others are under construction.

Local authorities at both sites are always assured of facing questions about the benefits promised to Amazon and funded by taxpayers. Across the country, communities are preparing financial grants worth millions of dollars.

The split of the second head office dilutes the company's initial promise of a megadel, as cities and counties pursued with stunts and gadgets, investing thousands of dollars in websites and presentations. The contest prompted comparisons to a business beauty contest or "the World Olympics Enterprise".

For Amazon, the HQ2 fanfare has added to a year of remarkable growth and important milestones. In September, the value of the company's shares briefly exceeded $ 1 trillion. And before that, CEO Jeff Bezos – whose fortune is tied to his Amazonian stakes – has become the richest man in the world in recent history.

Amazon representatives did not comment on reports of the split of the second headquarters between two cities.
