YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, California – Two people died from an apparent fall at Taft Point, in Yosemite National Park, a week after a cliff-taking photo caused a stir in social media, reports CBS SF Bay Area.
The National Park Service reported that forest guards retrieved the bodies of both men and women on Thursday morning. He published little details about the incident, which remains under investigation.
Last week, freelance photographer Matt Dippel turned to social media in search of two people that he had inadvertently captured on the cliff. Dippel was waiting to take a picture of his friend when a couple came out on the cliff and the man dropped on one knee.
"It's a very popular place in Yosemite. Really popular for engagements, proposals and weddings, "Dippel told CNN. "There were at least three or four different brides taking their pictures after the wedding, so it's certainly not unusual to see up there."
On the picture, it looks like they were very far away, but Dippel said it was about two minutes walk.
"I rushed to that point after taking the picture to try to find out who they were.I asked 20 or 25 people and no one showed up."
Dippel and Josh had spent a few days in Yosemite earlier this month on a trip to the west coast from Seattle to Los Angeles. When Dippel returned to Grand Rapids, Michigan, he posted the photo on Facebook and asked the Internet to help find them.
"Very good internet, I need your help, help me find these two," he wrote. "This was taken at Taft Point, in Yosemite National Park, on October 6, 2018. I took this picture and would be delighted to find it."
The message has been shared thousands of times and people have been trying to help Dippel locate the couple.
Dean Potter and his partner, Graham Hunt, died after jumping off the cliff in 2015. The couple, who used to fly in the wingsuit, the most extreme form of jumping in BASE is crushed after trying to disengage. a V-shaped notch in a ridge line. BASE jumping, which means jumping buildings, antennas, spans (such as bridges) and the Earth, is illegal in the park.
An investigation concluded that the deaths were accidental. Despite the video and photos of the jump, officials believe that the death of Potter and Hunt is a mystery.
