Two inmates after firing near the campus of the Los Angeles Charter School

LOS ANGELES – Two people are in custody after a shooting in Van Nuys, which injured two people and put a charter school nearby, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shootout was reported around 12:10 pm in the Vanowen Street and Van Nuys Boulevard area, a spokesperson for LAPD told KTLA, FOX's broadcast partner.

According to KTLA, several LAPD patrol vehicles and Los Angeles fire department ambulances responded to high school and campus.

The location is in front of the high school FIELDS Charter High School, but the filming did not take place on the LAPD Sgt campus. Barry Montgomery said at a press conference in the afternoon.

When they arrived, the police discovered two victims, identified only as a student and an employee, he said.

Both were transported and in a stable state, according to Los Angeles Fire Chief Trevor Richmond.

Meanwhile, the police set up a perimeter and the school was locked out as a precautionary measure, Montgomery told KTLA.

Two people were arrested and a firearm was found on the scene.

The blocking of CHAMPS Charter High School has been lifted, according to the LAPD.
