Maryland State Police said the pedestrian had been hit by a car on Highway 50 east after she got out of her car to help another driver. A driver was killed in a head-on collision at Upper Marlboro.

The incident on Highway 50 occurred shortly before 4 am, near Highway 410 in the Hyattsville area, when the driver of a silver vehicle from the Pontiac Grand Am lost the control of the vehicle and hit the wall of the shirt. A woman who was near the accident stopped to assist the driver and a few moments after leaving her vehicle, she was struck by an Infiniti G37, police said.

The Good Samaritan died at the scene, Maryland State Police said. The identity of the woman is withheld, pending a notification from the family.

The driver of Infiniti, a 37-year-old man, remained on the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of police, police said. His name is withheld pending charges, they said.

In the Upper Marlboro case, police said one man had been killed and another injured in a multi-vehicle crash shortly after 1:45 am. The frontal collision involving a Mercedes and a Dodge Ram pickup truck occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 202 in Chelsea. Way.
