We often use the term "breast cancer" to refer to everyone, but the disease can affect women in many ways … and men. Breast cancer can develop in different places: canals, lobules and tissues in between. There are two main types of breast cancer: non-invasive and invasive.
Non-invasive means that the cancer has not spread to surrounding areas, such as ductal carcinoma, which begins in the milk ducts. This type strikes 1 new case of 5 breast cancer. Noninvasive cancer treatments include lumpectomy, mastectomy, hormone therapy after surgery, and clinical trials.
Invasive breast cancer means that the cancer has spread to the surrounding tissues. This may include invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma, inflammatory breast cancer and metastatic cancer (stage 4). The good news is that illness is NOT hopeless! There are treatments for invasive breast cancer such as chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, targeting and clinical trials.
Of course, a healthy lifestyle is the first step in increasing breast cancer prevention. It is also essential after the treatment.
