Typhoon Kong-rey May threatens Japan's Ryukyu Islands, possibly including Okinawa, by the end of the week

Just after Trami, typhoon Kong-rey will be a danger for the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, possibly including Okinawa, at the end of the coming week.

The typhoon Kong-rey is expected to intensify rapidly this week in the Philippine Sea, where the environment is conducive to strengthening due to low wind shear (change in speed and / or direction of the wind depending on the altitude) and warm temperatures on the surface of the sea.

According to the computerized forecast model, the Typhoon Kong-rey could threaten the Ryukyu Islands, in the south of the country, by Thursday or Friday. Kong-rey may be a formidable typhoon when it gets closer to the Ryukyu Islands in the south, although it is weakening at this point.

Kong-rey comes right after Typhoon Trami, who made landfall in Wakayama Prefecture, southern Japan, as Category 1 equivalent Sunday evening, local time.

Trami has injured dozens of people in Japan and forced tens of thousands to evacuate, according to the Associated Press.

Typhoon fatigue
