With an impressive win, Tyron Woodley won two belts on Saturday.
The welterweight champion retained his title in the dominant fashion, dropping his previously undefeated opponent, Darren Till, with a bitter right hand. Dallas Airlines Center.
Woodley, who defended his belt by eliminating Robbie Lawler in the first round at UFC 201 on July 30, 2016, received his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt after the submission.
It was Woodley's first bid for the UFC and his first since November 20, 2009, when he introduced Rudy Bears.
Woodley has never been in danger and has always been in control. He left as an underdog, as punters apparently believed that Till's advantage and his shot would put an end to Woodley's reign, but Woodley is one of the most complete fighters in the UFC.
"You do not fight by the odds," said Woodley.
He has been called the best welterweight of all time, and although he may be excused in the euphoria of an impressive win to give himself extra credit, he is not at all.
This honor belongs to Georges St-Pierre, who is not only the biggest welterweight in the history of MMA, but is also one of the top three fighters of all weight classes in the history of the sport.
But a Woodley-St-Pierre title fight that would make the headline of the UFC's New Year's Eve card in Las Vegas would be an appropriate match. This would give the new king the ability to compete with the old king and would be a massive attraction for pay-per-view.
Woodley has not been a popular champion and it's not hard to understand why. He is a straightforward black man in a sport where a large percentage of fans are white.
He has been a model in many ways, though. He grew up in a poor district of Ferguson, Missouri, and found a way out, becoming an All-American twice at the University of Missouri while graduating.
He not only fought everyone there, but he was frustrated at not winning some of the big fights like St Peter's.
It's hard to hate a guy who gets in shape every night, gets better every time and wants to compete with the best. On Saturday, he refused to call anyone after sending with Till.
"It's hard to say [who I want next]because every time I say I want to fight with a certain person, I do not get the answer I want, "said Woodley. "What I'm going to do is continue to fight against those they put in front of me. I will beat them. I am the best welterweight of all time.
He has a way to go to get there, but he was clearly better than Till. Till did not drop his hands in the first, as Woodley started quickly and clinched almost all the important strikes.
He wanted to push the fight in the final laps, but his defense was not tight and when he launched a lazy right, a kind of half-uppercut, half-center, Woodley countered with a straight line perfectly delivered.

Until he did not get up, Woodley hit him with his elbows. Woodley slowly moved his arm and finally squeezed the throttle, forcing the quick patting.
"He was the best man tonight," said Till. "S – t is coming. I'm just emptied. I've already suffered losses and this makes you stronger. There is no excuse, however. Tyron was the best man tonight. Do not get me wrong, I will come back stronger and solidify myself again as one of the best to do it.
Woodley was the one who did that Saturday. He has a lot of work ahead of him, but he has several good opponents. If St-Pierre does not want to challenge him to the welterweight, UFC President Dana White said former interim champion Colby Covington would be eligible for a new title.
