The Cleveland Cavaliers have sacked coach Ty Lue on Sunday and plan to promote Larry Drew as an interim coach, ESPN told sources close to the league.

Cleveland started the season with six straight losses.

Drew met with management on Sunday morning to discuss the conditions for the promotion of an acting coach, sources told the league. It is possible that he asks for a more permanent appointment. Drew was 8 years old as an acting coach a year ago when Lue was set aside due to illness. He led Atlanta to the playoffs in each of his three years as head coach and spent a year at the Milwaukee Head Coach in 2013-14.

Lue led the Cavaliers to three consecutive NBA finals, including the 2016 NBA Championship. He was 128-83 at work. The owners and executives of Cleveland had hoped the team would vie for a playoff spot, although that may not be realistic given the loss of LeBron James leaving free investment left on the list.

It was the second time James had left Cleveland as a free agency. The first time the Cavaliers went from 61 wins with James in 2009-10 to 19 wins without him the following season.

Sources told Brian Windhorst of ESPN that Lue had recently had a disagreement with chief executive Koby Altman about the veterans. Altman preferred that Kyle Korver and JR Smith be removed from the rotation to give young players time. After a game in which they did not play, Lue put the two players back in the rotation without consulting Altman.

Owner Dan Gilbert also encouraged more play time for rookie Collin Sexton, sources told Windhorst. Sexton only takes an average of 23.5 minutes per game.

It still takes about $ 20 million to Lue for the contract he signed in 2016 after his team's victory.

Cavaliers forward Kevin Love was among the players who thanked Lue on social media on Sunday.

"You've helped me see the big picture – life-changing experiences and teaching points," Love wrote in Instagram. "Nothing but love and admiration, know that we will still work for something bigger." THANK YOU. "

Athletic first reported the dismissal of Lue.
