El Paso CBP Brackets Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts (Credit: U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is sending its resources, including a Border Patrol agents dozen, to help with Hurricane Michael relief efforts.
CBP officials said they are able to live with the agency of the United States. The agency will also use its hoist-able helicopters to help in rescue efforts and provide uniformed officers at shelters and distribution centers.
During past response efforts, CBP has deployed Border Patrol swift-water rescue agents equipped with jet skis, inflatable rafts and shallow-draft boats CBP officers have deployed with relief supplies, generators, pumps and chainsaws to CBP ports of entry and are prepared to respond to the Federal Emergency Management Agency tasking mission.
Locally, the El Paso Air and Marine Air Branch has deployed a supervisory air interdiction agent to the Florida State Emergency Operations Center's Air Operations Center to help coordinate the response. The El Paso Air Branch also feels an aviation enforcement agent and a ground-breaking effort to support air-to-ground support efforts.
CBP El Paso AMO also coordinated the transportation of CBP Special Operations Group staff in a Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft from CBP's Miami rental.
Two members of the CBP Office of the Field Operations Special Response Team is on standby to deploy, according to officials.
