Conor McGregor sank at a silent Khabib Nurmagomedov during his first face-to-face encounter before his defeat at UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov and McGregor finally faced a press conference in New York on Thursday night and resumed their bitter rivalry in person.

McGregor attacked the character of Nurmagomedov, his family and his legacy at a tense press conference that saw the Irish fly off at will to the assembled media.

Without a live audience, the atmosphere was a little strange as McGregor was targeting his rival and Nurmagomedov decided to remain largely silent.

Dana White revealed that the decision to hold a closed press conference was due to fear of the fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov.

And the president of the UFC worried about what would start in the confrontation, pleading with McGregor not to touch Nurmagomedov.

"I'm not going to touch him but I'm going to face each other. Let's go so we can look in the eyes, kid, "McGregor said before turning his tongue on Nurmagomedov.

"You're dead, buddy. You are dead. You are dead.

"I can see blue lips. Blue lips Where are my belts? Blue lips Breathe, kid. Breathe. "
