UFC Opens New State-of-the-Art Performance Institute in Shanghai, China

If you've ever been to the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, chances are you'll be impressed by the establishment. Well, a new PI under construction in Shanghai will be three times larger than that of Sin City.

According to a press release provided by the UFC, the new IP will be installed in Shanghai's Jing District, and the multi-million dollar mechanism is designed to be a major investment in the development of 39 elite athletes in Asia, especially with a focus on developing fighters of the next generation UFC.

Here is a list of the breathtaking features planned for the IP in China, whose opening is scheduled for mid-2019:

  • 6,500 cubic yards of concrete
  • 480 miles of wire

  • Featuring a full time staff of experts in the fields of:
  • Designed to provide athletes with world-class performance optimization to increase elite physical human potential
  • Multidisciplinary mixed martial arts coaching staff to support the rapid development of athletes and sports in Asia
  • Two floors composed of THE PERFORMANCE FLOOR AND THE MIXED MARTIAL ARTS FLOOR:
  • Additional features include, hotel suites, dining, retail services, fan experience area, and an athlete recreation hall and business building
  • The facility will include advanced integrated production capabilities with spectator seating
  • Designed to facilitate elite training for men's and women's sports of all disciplines

  • Wuliji Buren – Featherweight
  • Yadong Song – Featherweight
  • Yan Xiaonan – Straw Weights for Women
  • Yanan Wu – female bantamweight
  • Yaozong Hu – Truck

It is obvious that the development of IP in Shanghai will help to increase this number. The movement of the UFC to establish a footprint in China is a continuous effort. In 2016, the promotion signed an exclusive rights agreement with a five-year term with the Chinese PPTV streaming service. In November 2017, the UFC organized its first mainland China event at the Shanghai Mercedes Arena. UFC organized three events in Macao.

This first show in Shanghai attracted 15,128 fans, which was the country's largest for an MMA event.

The announcement about the Shanghai IP takes place a few days before the return of promotion in China for UFC Fight Night 141, which will play a heavyweight match in the main event. Curtis Blaydes faces Francis Ngannou in a rematch that could give the winner a shot of the title.
