The United Kingdom blamed Wednesday the Russian military intelligence group GRU for a series of "reckless" cyberattacks in recent years.
The UK National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) said with "great confidence" that he thought GRU was "almost certainly responsible" for several high profile cyberattacks in recent years.
They cited the BadRabbit 2017 ransomware attack in Europe, the National Democratic Committee (DNC) hacking of 2016 and a hacking of summer 2015 emails from a TV channel based in the US. UK as examples of GRU attacks conducted under other names.
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt condemned the attacks, which "would not serve any legitimate interest in national security".
"The actions of the GRU are reckless and blind: they try to undermine and interfere in elections in other countries; they are even prepared to hurt Russian businesses and Russian citizens, "Hunt said in a statement.
"This type of behavior testifies to their will to act without respecting international law or established norms, with a feeling of impunity and without consequences," he added.
The National Cybersecurity Center said the GRU attacks had affected millions of people in several countries and cost the national economies millions of dollars.
Hunt said the UK and its allies would react to the GRU actions, but did not say what it might imply.

GRU has attracted the attention of US and foreign officials in recent years for its aggression tactics and cyber operations.
The UK had previously announced charges against two GRU officers for the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal on British soil.
The Russian authorities denied any involvement in the attack and challenged the identity of the two men charged.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration sanctioned several GRU officers for launching cyberattacks and expelled dozens of suspected Russian intelligence agents operating in the United States in response to Skripal poisoning.
