Undergraduate students go into action after a heart attack

SEALY, Texas –

A Texas school district is mourning the loss of a bus driver who died of a heart attack.

School officials said the bus driver, Gerald Gardner, had just taken control of the Sealy Junior High Riders and was coming off the school road on Highway 90 when he suddenly became unconscious.

Due to the swift action taken by three Sealy students, the bus was safely parked and evacuated, officials said.

Three good Samaritans arrived at the scene, took Gardner from the bus and quickly started CPR.

A minute after the CPR, Sealy's fire department was on hand. Three minutes later, an ambulance was on the scene. Gardner was pronounced moments later.

A district spokesman issued the following statement:

"We are extremely grateful to Mr. Gardner for his years of service to Sealy ISD and our students.Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are going to the Gardner family at this time.We are also fortunate that no student The students are to be commended for their prompt thinking and calm during the evacuation, and Sealy ISD greatly appreciates the efforts of the first responders and the citizens. "
