In a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kurian said that during the investigation, his older brother had been threatened several times and that his vehicle had also been damaged. "On several occasions, people have thrown stones at the father's house in Jalandhar and complaints about such incidents have been lodged with the Punjab police," he said.

The brother of the 62-year-old priest of the diocese of Jalandhar also claimed that the accused, his relative and his collaborators had "deliberately" tried to persuade the witness of the case to change position by " undue influence or threat ".

"In these circumstances, my family members and I have strong suspicions about the sudden and mysterious death of my brother," he said, asking the chief minister to intervene and to 39, bring legal action.

Kattuthara, who had filed a complaint against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused of rape, was found dead on Monday morning. Police said the cause of death would be known after the autopsy.

According to the police, no evidence of visible injury was found on the body. There was vomit in the room, said Deputy Police Commissioner (DSP) Al Sharma. The viscera will be sent for examination, which will help to better understand the cause of death, said the DSP.
