BOGOTA, Colombia – US prosecutors have indicted a Venezuelan media mogul close to President Nicolas Maduro's socialist government for bribery and money laundering.
Raul Gorrin became president of Globovision shortly after he and others bought the popular television network in 2013 and relaxed his anti-government coverage.
Unsealed on Monday, federal prosecutors in Miami said that as of 2010, Gorrin allegedly paid at least $ 94 million in bribes to two Venezuelan officials in exchange for commercial transactions in foreign currency made for the government. .
He is also charged with paying three jets, a yacht and several champions on behalf of the two unnamed officials.
He was declared fugitive after officials did not arrest him during the August indictment.
