Do not miss the 9th week of this university football season. It's easy to become cynical when only a few weekends are filled with branded games. Everyone who looks forward knows November 3rd is the Weekend for the 2018 season with Alabama-LSU games, West Virginia-Texas, Penn State-Michigan down. It's a good slate!
But the 10th week does not end until the 9th week and, as you can read below, we start talking about good things about conferences. Many of the divisional races across the country are starting to take shape and many of the leaders of these races are competing this weekend or will be in the coming weeks. That's when it's okay.
Sometimes, the less confident weekends give the most chaos. A number of better ranked teams are on the road this Saturday, some of them being already overlooked in Vegas' eyes. There are many interesting points spread across the market. So, no, Saturday does not have to be an afterthought as we get ready for this much touted first weekend of November. There is still much to appreciate. Prepare your TVs, laptops and tablets. This one should be fun.
All times is
The biggest games
No. 9 Florida vs. No. 7 Georgia, CBS, stream on FuboTV (Free Trial), 3:30 pm: The clash in Jacksonville counts again, and the winner could very well represent SEC East in Atlanta. Although both programs are in the top 10, this game takes on a different meaning for each side. A victory in Jacksonville would be a cherry on the back of what has already been a good start for Florida freshman coach Dan Mullen. Georgia, on the other hand, comes from a brutal defeat at LSU and a second consecutive "L" could send the Bulldogs away from the playoff contender to the center of the group's SEC-East squad. The rivalry games with stakes are simply the best.
No. 18 Iowa at No. 17 Penn State, ESPN, 3:30 pm: This could be a great weekend for Iowa. The Hawkeyes are almost touchdown dogs on the road, but a win here combined with a defeat in Wisconsin – more about the Badgers' precarious situation below – would keep them in the Big Ten West hunt. Iowa follows this match with matches against Northwestern and Purdue, two other players in the West Division. Meanwhile, Penn State is looking to avoid a third defeat in four games, Michigan and Wisconsin remaining to contend.
No. 14 Washington State to No. 24 Stanford, Pac-12 Networks, 7 pm: Can the State of Washington follow up on its victory over Oregon? The Cougars have quickly become a trendy opportunity for the playoffs in the periphery, but they are a field dog on the road. This game can also shed some light on the fascinating Pac-12 North race, or make it even more muddy. As Saturday approaches, Washington, Washington State and Stanford all have a defeat in conference (and Oregon is still not at the trailing at 2-2). Yet the three leading teams still have to face each other.
Other great games
No. 2 Clemson at Florida State ABC, noon: The Tigers are a big favorite on the road, with around 17 points in most Vegas books, and Florida. is historically pretty bad in these situations. Put Clemson's defensive front against the FSU's o-line and it's out of balance. Still, this is Clemson-Florida State and the Seminoles have not yet abandoned the season.
No. 20 Wisconsin northwest, FOX, noon: Badgers are on upset alert this weekend and north-west the reputation of the oppressed is a big reason why. What was a 6.5 point gap for Wisconsin is now reduced to four for Paul Chryst's team. A popular choice on the road is Northwestern against Notre Dame because it would have huge ramifications in the playoffs, but do not neglect the first part of the Wildcats on Saturday. This has implications for the Big Ten West race as both teams have only one conference loss.
# 21 South Florida to Houston, ABC / ESPN2, 3:30 pm: The Bulls are undefeated, but they do not reach the goals of advanced analysis and are a hit dog on the road against the Cougars. It would be Houston's biggest win and, on paper, it's the toughest test yet to be done. Win here and the Cougars are clearly the favorites to win the AAC West.
No. 12 Kentucky Missouri, SEC network, 4pm: It is not often that you consider the # 12 team in the country as a touch dog. It's a shock of styles with Kentucky's lockdown defense against Missouri's Drew Lock quarterback and the Tigers' offensive. It does not always look good with the Wildcats, but if they win a victory on the road, they will hold a big confrontation between the SEC and Georgia on November 3rd.
No. 16 Texas A & M at Mississippi State, ESPN, 7pm: This is another interesting line. State of Mississippi was a favorite of 2.5 points, although the line dropped to -1.5 for the Bulldogs. The fact is that the state of Mississippi has a zero pass attack and the opposing defenses charge the surface. That would favor Texas A & M, but good luck to block one of the best defensive lines in college football, Aggies.
# 6 Texas in the state of Oklahoma, ABC, 8pm: The line is only 3.5 points in favor of the Longhorns, and Tom Herman is far from being a sure thing against the spread as a favorite as opposed to the outsider role. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger will play after being injured in the shoulder, but how effective will it be? Oklahoma State has its share of problems, but it is a preparatory game for the Pokes. With No. 13 West Virginia heading to Austin on Nov. 3, it's a forward match for the Horns. Hold on, this one could get weird.
Keep an eye on …

- No. 19 Oregon in Arizona, ESPN, 22:30
