WHAT IS IN PLAY?
For Washington, it will add to his CV an unexpected match in the Top 25, while BYU will have another chance to prove itself with a second game on the road against a team classified in three weeks. The Cougars beat Wisconsin two weeks ago and now have a chance to ruin the hopes of College Football Playoff for another team at a power conference.
KEY MATCHUP
Washington's defensive front against the BYU game. The Cougars have an average of 156.5 yards per game, but they have the kind of offensive that could cause problems in Washington. Arizona State announced last week its master plan on how to stay close to the Huskies by successfully throwing the ball in the first duels and creating manageable situations in the third. BYU would be smart to follow this plan to try to stay close.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
BYU: QB Tanner Mangum. Many years ago, Mangum was a target for Chris Petersen, then Boise State coach, who wanted the high school star to stay home and play for the Broncos. Petersen will finally see Mangum playing on the pitch for the Cougars. Mangum has three TD passes on four games.
Washington: LB Ben Burr-Kirven. Burr-Kirven earned a second defensive player of the week title, the Pac-12, by winning 20 tackles in the Arizona State victory. It was the most attacks from a Washington player since John Fiala was 22 in 1996. Burr-Kirven is tied for fifth place nationally with more than 13 tackles per game.
