Matt Mosley, contributor to SportsDayDFW.com and columnist for Texas Monthly, answered your questions during a live discussion on Friday. Here are some highlights:
Question: Do you think the A & M O-line is on display by Clemson this Saturday? Looked shaky against an FCS team in Week 1.
Matt Mosley: It will be a huge test. Ags do not have one of these types of NFL on the attack points right now. Not that these guys can not grow up in that. The strength of the Ag line seems to be inside. Real solid in the center. I think you'll see the Ags trying to move the pocket and let Mond have a chance to play with his legs. If they send it back, it will be a long afternoon. The ball must go out quickly. Against an extremely fast defense like this, the game on screen can be an excellent weapon. I would like Trayveon Williams to be involved in the early passing game in this one. I can not wait for this game. What an opportunity for Ags at home. Even a narrow loss would indicate that Jimbo is making progress. He faced Dabo, so it will not be a foreign territory. Is it more scary to enter Kyle Field or the Valley of Death? I always say it's the last one … but maybe Jimbo can help change that.
Q: Do people forget about Shawn Robinson because of Kyler Murray?
Mosley: I do not know that people are totally neglecting it. If Robinson has a very good performance in a match against Ohio State, he will receive a lot of attention. We just did not see enough of him to justify a ton of conversation. With Kyler Murray, it's a huge story because of who he follows and the fact that he's already a multimillionaire via baseball. Robinson will have a lot of chances to raise his profile. Maybe we can make him do one of those discussions.
Q: Your thoughts on the disastrous start of the SMU season? How did a team that played bowling last season look so bad?
Mosley: I guess we should consider the idea that UNT could be very good. We already knew that Mean Green had a really talented QB. Now, it looks like they can play a little on both sides of the ball. Seth Littrell could turn into excellent coaching. That said, the Mustangs looked very awful. I think we should give more than one match to Sonny. It can take time to get things done. Do not act like Chad [Morris] had created a kind of mastodon. He was fortunate to be hired in Arkansas after a few decent seasons on the Hilltop. I do not really want Sonny to follow the biggest act of his life. I think Chad's son is an excellent QB.
Q: Is Texas sure Sam Ehlinger can be their guy?
Mosley: I do not know how someone could really think at this point. He certainly does good things. I heard Brady Quinn say something about "it's what makes him special". This seems to be a stretch at this point. He was talking about Ehlinger's ability to get out of the pocket. It does not really matter if you throw twists late in the game. He did not need to pass this pass, even if it was third and 10. I think UT fans would go for Buechele. Maybe none of these guys is the answer. The horns have been searching since Colt.
Q: Was Tom Herman disappointed or did Texas fans have too little patience for their own good?
Mosley: I think it's pretty bad to lose to Maryland two years in a row. Maybe you gave him the loss last year because of his start. But going there and playing a team that is moving from tragedy and losing is very bad. We have not seen much improvement in this game, even if Herman pointed to a few points. I think the LSU might be relieved not to be able to land Herman. Of course, the great thing about college football is that Herman could completely change the story with victories against USC and OU. It is a weekly proposal. But yes, when you are the head coach at UT, there will be an immediate judgment. You can only blame Charlie for so long.
