The shooter is not yet in detention

OCALA – A woman was shot dead during a spousal dispute Saturday afternoon at Walmart in East Ocala.

Shortly before 3:00 pm, the woman was taken to an ambulance outside the store at 4980 E. Silver Springs Blvd. and transported to a local hospital. At 3:20 pm, the authorities confirmed that the woman had died.

According to the Ocala police, the shooter and the victim knew each other. They were engaged in a physical fight near the Walmart Garden section on Saturday afternoon, and the woman shouted for help. An employee intervened and called 911; it is at this point that the shots were fired.

Scotty Ballard told Star-Banner that he had known the victim for about a year and a half and that he was his roommate. He added that the victim and the shooter were about 9 months old but were currently separated.

Ballard knows their names, but Star-Banner holds them back because the investigation is underway and it's impossible to know if the next of kin of the victim has been warned.

Ballard said that the man and the victim had been fighting all day Saturday. He wanted to get back together, but she did not do it.

During these discussions, the man repeatedly threatened her and at one point stated that he was "overcoming" for her, Ballard said.

Ballard and the woman went to Walmart to buy furniture for their apartment. He was at an alley when the shooting occurred.

Colleen Wade too. She said that she was shopping inside the store and that she was heading to the garden when she heard a sound that was being heard. Wade said that she had come down an alley and had seen a man standing near a woman and shooting him several shots.

After the shots were fired, the man calmly walked out of the store. When Wade came out, she saw him go on a bike.

At 4 pm, no arrests had been announced.
