Update: A woman missing by police was found wandering in Bergen County

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – Norwood police have identified the woman who was found wandering Tuesday on a street in North Jersey.

At 16. On Thursday, the police received a call from the family of "Jane Doe" and confirmed her identity, authorities said.

"The Norwood police would like to thank all the concerned citizens who provided us with information and leads to send that person back to his family," police said.

Police had previously said the woman had told them they had left the west coast a year ago following a car accident in Washington State. She told the police that she had walked all the time and did not know her own identity.

The woman was found Tuesday on Livingston Street in Norwood and the state police shared her photo on Facebook in the hope that someone knows her.

On Thursday, the New Jersey State Police shared the photo and other information about her, claiming that she had told the police that it was a crime. A veteran who may have served in Bosnia and that she had been walking for almost a year.

State police refused to answer questions regarding the investigation and directed a reporter to the Norwood Police Department. Norwood Police Chief Jeffrey Kraples could not be contacted immediately for further information on the woman's condition when she was found, or how she had managed to eat or to find a shelter when she had traveled in the past year.

Information about her was recorded as a missing person in all law enforcement databases, the police said.

The woman is between 40 and 50 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. (See related: Bergen police trying to identify a woman found in the street)

Norwood is located in northwestern Bergen County, near the border of the state of New York.
