Jordan Spieth did not make the Tour Championship, the only American player who was not in East Lake last week.

It made no difference in the first holes of the Ryder Cup on Friday morning. Spieth had the hot putter early, giving the Americans their only lead right now. His birdie putt on the fifth gave the United States a 2-up advantage against Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey in Europe.

At 25, Spieth is already a veteran of the Ryder Cup, with a record of 4-3-2 on the last two teams. He is paired with world No. 4 Justin Thomas, who can hardly qualify as a rookie, but makes his debut at the Ryder Cup.

And the seventh, Spieth's birds again to get to 3-up, still the only track for the United States

Rookie with the first eagle

16:04 (ET): Tony Finau wins the first eagle of the day at Golf National, scoring his sixth-par approach shot, a 290-yard par 4, to tie his game.

Finau is one of three rookies of the US team at the Ryder Cup. She is paired with Brooks Koepka in the opening match against Justin Rose and Jon Rahm.

Rose also had a chance at the six eagle but could not bring down her long putt.

And they left

3:36 (ET): As the four matches began Friday morning at the 42nd Ryder Cup, Jordan Spieth opened the fireworks for the United States team as he nearly missed his first hole, a par 4's. 419 yards.

Paired with his good friend Justin Thomas, Spieth managed to get a lead of a three-foot match against Europeans Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey.

Patrick Reed won the biggest crowd, as you would expect from Captain America. Playing with Tiger Woods in the final duet, Reed hit his second shot in the water and Woods missed his birdie putt. Francesco Molinari did not blink while performing his birdie putt to give a 1 point lead to Europe.

Tiger brought the match back to 3 seconds after almost making his tee shot. He gets a birdie conceded.
