US and South Korea suspend other drills to reinforce North Korean diplomacy

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – The United States and South Korea have suspended the upcoming air defense exercises to give diplomatic efforts with North Korea "every chance to continue," the US military said Friday. .

The Pentagon announced that the decision to suspend the Vigilant Ace exercise, scheduled for December, had been made by US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and South Korean Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo, gathered Friday in Singapore.

Vigilant Ace is one of the suspended exercises to encourage dialogue aimed at getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.
