The Vatican revealed Friday that the two leading American cardinals and papal advisers would play a major role at the February summit on sexual abuse by religious, reflecting the importance of the issue in the United States in recent years.
Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago, leading ally of Pope Francis, will sit on the organizing committee of the event, to be held from February 21 to 24, the Vatican announced. The pope's advisory committee on child protection, led by Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston, will be involved in the preparations, he added.
