The United States is investigating allegations of Chinese-made mattress dumping after several US manufacturers, including Leggett & Platt, Tempur Sealy and other companies, filed suit, the Commerce Department said Friday.
Tempur Sealy shares rose by close to 1.5% in the late morning after the Commerce declaration, while those of Leggett & Platt increased by less than 1%.
Other private companies – Corsicana Mattress Co, Elite Comfort Solutions, Future Foam Inc., FXI Inc., Innocor Inc., Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., and Serta Simmons Bedding LLC – also signed the petition asking Commerce to: investigate, announced the department.
According to the department, mattresses from China are expected to reach about $ 436.5 million in 2017.
He said the US International Trade Commission (ITC) would make its initial decision on 2 November, followed by the Commerce Department on 27 February.
A final decision is scheduled for May 13, but could be later, he added.
If the department decides that China sells mattresses in the United States at a price below fair value and harms US sellers, it would impose duties, he said in his statement.
