US stocks end lower oil down

Stocks close down in a shortened session on Friday as energy stocks fall with the price of oil. The S & P 500 ended at the Wall Street correction, 10% lower than its most recent peak.

The S & P 500 index fell 17 points, or 0.7%, to 2,632. The index is now down 10.2% from the record set on September 20th

US oil is down 6.1% at $ 51.29 a barrel because of new worries about a slowing global economy that could weigh on demand. Among the energy values, Chevron lost 3.4%.

The volume of transactions was light, with markets only open for half a day after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Technology stocks also weighed on the market. Apple dropped 2.5%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index lost 178 points, or 0.7%, to settle at 24,285. The Nasdaq Composite lost 33 points, or 0.5%, to 6,938.

Bond prices have fallen. The 10-year Treasury Note yield was 3.05%.

The price of a barrel of US oil is down 5.7% to 51.52 dollars a barrel because of renewed fears that the slowdown in the global economy could weigh on demand. Among the energy values, Marathon's oil fell by 3.3%, while Halliburton's oil dropped by 2.8%.

Retailers are seeing slight gains as buyers look for Black Friday offers.

The S & P 500 index fell 15 points, or 0.6%, to 2,634.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 143 points, or 0.6%, to 24,320 points. The Nasdaq Composite lost 21 points, or 0.3%, to 6,951.

Bond prices have gone up. The yield on the 10-year Treasury Note fell to 3.03%.
