Usain Bolt claimed that it was useless in the kitchen because his mother "never taught him" how to cook – while he was opening a Caribbean-style restaurant in London.

The eighth Olympic champion, 32, was joined by a host of famous friends, including the actor and DJ Idris Elba, and the Elbe's fiancée, model Sabrina Dhowre, for the launch of Tracks & Records near Liverpool Street Station.

It's his first culinary experience outside of his native Jamaica, where he oversees the Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay sites. The restaurant offers more than 150 types of rum, including 100 from Jamaica.

The athlete, who has won three gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics, said last night: "London has always been a second home for me because it 's where I am. was based that I practiced athletics.

"It has always been a part of me, especially after 2012 and the amount of love I have had. It is the ideal place for the first restaurant.

However, he admitted that his strength does not extend to the kitchen. "I can do anything but cook," he said. "My mother did not learn that – so I blame my mother."

Bolt said the new restaurant business was thrusting his toes into different things. He added, "You have to diversify because you can not play sports forever."

The restaurant aims to give guests an authentic taste of the Caribbean and serves some of Bolt's favorite Jamaican dishes, such as jerk pork, fried fish and bammy (a flatbread). Other menu items include curry mutton, crispy fried wings and cod fritters.

Spread over two floors, Tracks & Records offers a variety of sports memorabilia, modern art and Bolt vinyls. Downstairs, it hosts a large dance floor with reggae music and DJ sets.

Bolt said that Jamaican cuisine was his ultimate comforting food, adding, "I try to eat Jamaican food as much as possible.

"When I play sports, I try to be healthy … but it is difficult."

The fastest man in the world is planning to expand to 15 sites in the UK.
