USC job is not (yet) open, but James Franklin of Penn State may want it

James Franklin chose not to answer the direct question.

That's not to say that he's leaving Penn State. But with the glamorous work of USC likely to open, speculation about Franklin's future is well underway.

So David Jones from PennLive.com simply asked Franklin if he would be back at State College in 2019 or not.

If Clay Helton's Trojans do not succeed in infusing Notre Dame, invincible and upset, this week, USC will finish on a 5-7 score and Sports Director Lynn Swann may be invited to change. There would be a $ 14 million buyout to fire Helton. Swann would therefore be under intense pressure to secure the next contract of employment.

For some in southern California, this means Franklin.

Franklin is in his fifth season at Penn State and has won 11 games in 2016 and 2017.

David Jones, of PennLive, outlined the top 10 reasons why the USC work might be too intriguing to go unnoticed, including the fact that he would escape a rugged Big Ten East.

Penn State will host Maryland on Saturday, and Franklin can probably expect some post-game questions on something other than the Terrapins. Whether he wants to answer it or not.
