USC should be interested in John Harbaugh as HC

If Clay Helton is fired by the University of Southern California, the school could rely on professionals to fill his most prestigious position.

Ian Rapoport, a member of the NFL, said Sunday on Thursday morning John Harbaugh, the Ravens coach, would be among the top three candidates.

Harbaugh, whose team is 5-5 on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, has been on the hot seat this season, but could calm the speculation with a winning streak to close the season.

By Rapoport, Harbaugh joins former Raiders coach, Jack Del Rio, and Penn State coach, James Franklin, at the top of USC's wish list.

First, the school may need Helton after a disappointing 5-7 season, which could happen in the next 24 hours, according to Rapoport.

One of the issues raised by Harbaugh's speculation is whether USC would be willing to wait until the end of the NFL season to try to attract a professional coach.

Mr. Harbaugh is about to put a USC cap on the sidelines, but we think the speculative season is open.
