USMNT players' rating: Adams, Carter-Vickers get high marks in El Tri shock

New York Red Bulls ace Tyler Adams played the role of hero while the US national team won a friendly 1-0 against Mexico in Nashville.

The Green House had a lot of trouble to chain the positive passes in the El Tri half an hour before the end of the match had taken place, but they raised their game in time to take full advantage of Zalvidar's ejection in the 67th minute.

Zack Steffen (6) – The Columbus Crew SC goalkeeper was the source of a great early corner check and a late claim. However, Steffen finds it hard to take a chance risk of rushing out of the mound to get out of the box.

Shaq Moore (5) – It was an unstable first period for the right-back, who lost a corner kick and a turnover that was waiting to arrive. Moore played much better after intermission but still stopped shining.

Matt Miazga (6) – It was not the best first half for Miazga, who made himself guilty of some unnecessary gifts and give a dangerous free kick in the late United States. He returned to stop mode after the break.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (7.5) – The Swansea Loan Center was easily the defender of the night. Carter-Vickers has been cool as it should be, whether it is to bring down an attack plan in Mexico or face a difficult pass.

Eric Lichaj (5.5) – That was another strange change for the veteran, who still seems to be suffering from a lack of concentration in the United States. There were a few and Lichaj was rarely able to play, but he also collected seven tackles among the 13 defensive stops in 56 minutes.

Wil Trapp (6) – The skipper was more active in stopping rushes than usual, but rarely exceeded the limits of his generally effective passing game. Trapp is another guy whose game has improved in the second half.

Weston McKennie (6) – Schalke's midfielder was heading for a strong performance before hitting five minutes before half-time. McKennie took advantage of some nice pushes to attack and smother a few El Tri rushes before leaving.

Tyler Adams (8) – Once again, Adams ran around doing the little things. It was a human pressure relief valve, connecting a very high distance of 25 positive passes in the Mexican team. And to top it off, he did not make a mistake at the end of the race to give the USMNT its first victory at the border in nearly three and a half years.

Kellyn Acosta (6.5) – The Colorado midfielder had a quiet first period both on the ball and out, and his recovery service did nothing to write at home. When Acosta started wandering inside after the interval, his influence increased until he led the race and fed the crosser on the winner.

Timothy Weah (7) – He did not show up on the score sheet, but almost all attempts to attack in the United States, in addition to the game of goals, went through the young speedster. Weah only took the defense once, but he adjusted when the match stopped coming. His eagerness to lose some depth helped the team get closer to midfield in the second half.

Gyasi Zardes (7) – It's one of those sneaky performances that some may not appreciate. Zardes bound when he received the ball on the ground, fought ruthlessly for long balls and was a general nuisance at the opposite bottom line. And on the only goal of the game, he dragged the two central defenders with him to clear a path that Adams could exploit.

Coach Dave Sarachan (6.5) – As it became routine during his tenure, there were good and bad things to ponder. The defensive form of the team was generally strong, while the organization of the attack took about an hour to manifest. But the young charges of Sarachan were at the height and kept their spirit to finally win the victory.

Submarines

Julian Green (5.5) – Greuther Furth's striker was in a hurry for the first 15 minutes of his trip, which resulted in the loss of some goods. Then Green made quieter decisions by leading the team.

Antonee Robinson (6.5) – There were some late problems at the back, but Robinson also probably served the two best cross-plays of the evening. One of them slipped behind the rally to find Adams for the goal.

Bobby Wood (5.5) – Immediately after his arrival, he failed to make a few passes in the attack positions. After hitting the noodle solidly, Wood passed a defender from the baseline to cross the area.

DeAndre Yedlin (5.5) – The Newcastle man found time in a short quarter back to make a few stops, but he also let some centers pass.
