A truck crossed a median road in Utah and collided with a van traveling in the opposite direction, killing the six men involved in a kidnap in a suspected accident suspected of being caused by alcohol and prescription drugs, Saturday announced soldiers.

Two other people were injured in a jeep when the driver lost control trying to avoid the trucks.

The Utah Road Patrol said that investigators found prescription drugs and alcohol cans inside the dump truck after the accident occurred Friday afternoon on a highway near Heber, about 25 kilometers south of Park City.

The driver of the dump truck was treated for minor injuries and was detained for six counts of auto homicide, the agency said.

The driver of the van was identified as Efrain Cardenas, 62, reported the Salt Lake Tribune.

Patrol Sgt Lawrence Hopper said Saturday that the authorities were working to identify other victims.

"It was one of the most horrific accidents I've ever seen," he said.

The road patrol stated that shortly before the accident another driver contacted the authorities to tell him that the dump truck was driving irregularly.

The westbound dump truck then crossed the central barrier and hit the driver's side of the van eastbound, the police said. Three of the men were ejected from the vehicle and three others remained inside.

The driver of a Jeep in the direction of the east lost control of his vehicle when she tried to avoid the two trucks. The latter overturned and landed backwards, authorities said. She and a female passenger were taken to a Park City hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
